After what some say was the craziest NBA All Star Weekend ever – this year’s event in Las Vegas – the annual basketball extravaganza is hitting New Orleans in 2008.
The 57th All Star game will be played at New Orleans Arena, home of the NBA’s Hornets, on Sunday, February 17, 2008. The game will be televised on TNT in the United States and will reach a worldwide television audience in more than 200 countries.
“The award of NBA All Star 2008 is our vote of confidence in the progress being made in the reopening and rebuilding of New Orleans’ tourism infrastructure,” says NBA Commissioner David Stern. “New Orleans will become the basketball capital of the world in February 2008, and demonstrate to a global audience New Orleans is very much open for business.”
Let’s hope All Star injects much-needed positivity into a city still reeling from the devastating effects of 2005’s Hurricane Katrina.
