A t-shirt of new group CRS: Pharrell, Lupe Fiasco and Kanye West
Hip-hop bigwigs Kanye West, Pharrell Williams and Lupe Fiasco have confirmed they’re recording a joint album under the group name – wait for it – Child Rebel Soldiers.
“It’s definitely happening this year,” says Fiasco (real name Wasalu Muhammed Jaco), according to Contact Music.
“We call each other by our Child Rebel names – but they are top secret for now.”
For three young men who are known more for their narcissistic addiction to the latest streetwear stylings – and one in particular (West), who “learned” from fellow rapper Q-Tip about the travesty of Sierra Leone’s “blood diamond” industry and then changed up his hit “Diamonds Are Forever” with a rushed remix that basically came off as an insincere attempt at redemption – is this just another misappropriation of a global hot topic?
We expected more from three rappers who are largely considered intelligent, thoughtful and forward-thinking. What do you think?

I heard 1 of their songs and its hot. If u listen to their solo albums u should already know dat they say better things then most of deez ****s dat people ridin on. So wit that said, I don’t see why people doubtin and hatin on them because we already know that the album gon be ridiculous.

Judqinq from the sonq they are already have toqether, i think this cd should be somethinq to look out for. i’m a HUGE lupe fan. i love him.! he’s so underrated. most of kanye’s work is really hot too. pharell is alriqht. kanye & lupe miqht outshine him. but who knows.? can’t wait for the CD to drop.!

Pharell aint even a conscious rapper. ppl just like him for his clothes and beats but his rhymes are completely stupid. i say Lupe, Common, and Talib Kweli should’ve joined for the collaboration of this cd instead. Kanye is just into himself and so self-centered.

Well…actually, going back to the post and not whether or not the albums gonna be “fire”, it’s kind of a shame to see Lupe so closely hooked up with this. I mean, in the end, you know the name is only there to provoke interest and was either Pharrel or Kanye’s idea. The thought might have come from The Cool (Little Weapon, Put You On Game), but it was twisted by those Name-Brand cats. Its a shame when you think about it. I like that idea that Kill Em All had about the group being Lupe, Common and Kweli, but we all know that that would never really sell. Hip-hop’s in too sad a state right now to listen to real words from thorough and open minds. If it ain’t Ay Bay Bay or Crank Dat, it ain’t nuthin’.

I agree with the initial post. Kanye loves taking things like this and capitalizing on it. He does not care about blood diamonds. That song is ****ing awful and he only changed it so he wouldn’t look retarded. Next year they’ll be making songs about water shortages, prob called “Empty Bucket” or something. They’re just riding another global crisis to seem “intelligent”.

true fully i think that this group would be group great because they will capitalized on global problems but than again it should of been lupe,common,and kweli and kanye and pharrell can back them up and endorse them with the bbc/bape clothing line, but than again kanye might spaz like he does and get pissed so its best to wait and see what happens with them but thats just me.

you can say wat you want but how many of you honestly knew about blood diamonds before kanye came out with the song addressing it, not to many huh. But before anyone starts to put them down maybe they should listen to all of their songs and then say something. They’re all good artist and they’re all good at wat they do, thats why people like them and hate them.

Lupe is the only one who I would consider to be a conscious rapper. The other two are totally conflicted. On the one hand, Kanye will come out with something that has a message, but then his next song will be talkin bout gettin head. So…not really makin a big impact on the world. I would be impressed if they actually did something to help support the causes they rap about. Maybe they should donate the proceeds of selling those shirts to the victims of childhood war. that would be a great thing.
