This is Cassie’s new video for her new single “Official Girl” featuring (who else?) Lil Wayne.
The elements for Cassie becoming a fully-fledged Aaliyah clone are all there: long black hair (covering one eye), bikini tops and baggy pants, soft, lilting voice, and choreographed dance moves.
On the anniversary of Aaliyah’s tragic death (August 25, 2001), we want to know if you think the folks at Cassie’s record label are aiming for Cassie to channel the late, great singer/actress. Is this swagger jacking at its best?

I deff. do not think Cassie is the “new” Aaliyah. Aaliyah was a very unique lady with a style all her own. Cassie seems to be a bit less original and her style of singing, in my opinion is the same as all these other female vocalist while Aaliyah’s was very distinct and constantly switching it up. I would say that Cassie is very talented and one of my favorites but Aaliyah is just one in a million and i don’t think anyone would ever be able to take her place. The closet comparison to what i think Aaliyah would be like if she was still alive is Ciara if anyone. All these women are beautiful in their own way but another Aaliyah has yet to be seen by my eyes. God Bless her and her family.

I DO think Cassie’s label are trying to channel Aaliyah through her, but let’s get one thing straight: Aaliyah would never, EVER have had to show her naked ass (in this video, in Complex magazine) like Cassie has been doing to get attention.
Aaliyah had genuine vocal and dance talent, took risks with her music, and was a much-loved female artist taken away from us way too early on. Nothing against Cassie because I don’t know her personally, but it appears the people in charge of her career are running out of options with her very early on in the game, which is never a good sign.

Nobody can replicate, duplicate, or try to imitate aaliyah. Maybe they were doing a tribute idk but cassie can’t be the great aaliyah.

The only thing Cassie and Aaliyah have in common is the hairstyle. Other than that..there is no comparison. Cassie is talented in her own way..but her vocal skills cannot rival Aaliyah’s.

To be honest, Cassie is another Ashanti, or Amerie. A nice face with a TERRIBLE voice. They are background singers turned front liners. Aaliyah was one as well, but as stated by other commenters, Aaliyah had her OWN style. She dressed tom-boyish, she sang w/ distinctiveness, and so much that even to this day I bet anyone could point out Aaliyah singing in a song. “Me-n-You” by Cassie wasn’t a song that made me say “Now she can sing!” It just sounded like another record sale that was made for the wrong reason… LOOKS.

hell to the no. cassie will never be aaliyah. aaliyah can SING. no offense to cassie…she can definitely model her ass off and she’s a very pretty girl. but still. i can see her resemblance to aaliyah in her new video, but in no way, shape, or form is she the “new aaliyah”.

We all know she can’t sing that good, let alone no where near aliyahs talent. Dancing she can’t come close either. Or charisma (more than just being pretty). The longest i’ve seen any of her songs stay on air is a week. And the dj’s clown on her lol.
ok at 0:42 the singing was just off and never got back on after that. They either need to:
1. Just play her videos for the hearing impared and deaf. They’ll overlook the dancing or lack there of.
2. Introduced a mime-a-vision/guess the words out the mouth division of bad boy.
3. Pull a milly vanilly, ashlee simpson or something. In this case we’ll understand.

Cassie did try to copy Aaliyah in a sense. I noticed the way she moved and try to pull off that “hard” vibe. She has not done that in any of her past videos so why start now. maybe Diddy has something to do with this (he should know betta). Aaliyah cannot be duplicated so quit tryin!

cassie is no aaliyah and will never come close. she is selling sex, i mean whatever makes money. she has the looks so she will make money however she will never be on the level that aaliyah is on. Aaliyah was a total package, i mean she had the vocals, she could dance a million times better, actress, more likable, and most of all she had a style like no other. so miss cassie needs to find her own style what make her standout from the rest, and if she is around people who want allow her to do so, she needs change the circle of people she is around. once she finds that unique style of her own i think she will be alright.
theres only one Aaliyah so don’t try to compare because if you do you will only play yourself.

Aaliyah was the blueprint. I was fortunate enough to meet her at the Tower records across from the Beverly Center a month before she passed on. When people talk about how sweet she was, there tellin nuthin but the truth. Beautiful inside and out…

There is noooo way that Cassie is the new Aaliyah. First off, Aaliyah could sing..Cassie cant. Aaliyah could dance, Cassie cant. The only thing in common is that they are both beautiful women. Although I have listened to Cassie’s songs, I don’t really see her as an artist like I did Aaliyah. Cassie seems to just be doing whatever her label tells her to do, she has no swag of her own, no voice. In this video she is jockin Aaliyah’s style naaasstyyyyyy! But that doesn’t mean that she’s the new Aaliyah. There can never be another. Lil miss NOASSATALL just needs to get some singing lessons, find herself, and maybe..we can talk about her as an artist because up to now, she still hasn’t even proved herself to be anything but eyecandy and a trophy on Diddy’s arm. Aaliyah would have never had to show her body off the way Cassie does, she is selling sex..not music.

Hell naw she’s not the “new” Aaliyah. (First there CANNOT be a NEW Aaliyah, EVER. Aaliyah was and still is a household name.)
From her collabos with Ryan Leslie to her solo efforts, she’s definitely got something. But to compare her to Aaliyah’s status is simply ludicrous. She’s not as vocally skilled as Aaliyah, nor is her choreography ANYWHERE NEAR as good. And I’m sure she would agree…if not, ****, oh well.
Please believe I’m not knocking the girl’s swag though. She has the potential and she definitely has the face & the body the industry loves.
P.S.
I’d go for Ciara being more of a protege’ for Aaliyah than Cassie (on the dancing tip).

Cassie actually stated in Fader Magazine (With Aaliyah on the cover) that she tries to be like Aaliyah!!!!! And if u notice, she ALWAYS has her hair over her LEFT EYE! Aaliyah only rocked her parts on the right side so the hair can flow over her left eye. Now Ciara does it, and so does Cassie. Cassie tries to be her and she fails miserably. She dances like a white chick, can’t really sing all that well, and even tries to look like someone else! Gah! Can u just model already and leave the singing someone else. Danja and The Clutch killed this song though, but imagine if someone else was singing it. Like Tiffany Evans or someone young who can REALLY SING!

But why are you so angry at the girl for (or her team) for loving Aaliyah as much as you do? The poor child has had 2 songs that you know. If they both didn’t go for Aaliyah, we shouldn’t bash her. I’m not hating on the girl. And I respect her “tribute” if that’s what you wanna call it. But honestly I think she needs to create her own Identity. She’s made negative names for her self since she started in ‘06…..MORE than Aaliyah had when she was living; the only rumor on her was about her N R.Kelly. I understand that Aaliyah is Cassie’s idol, but seriously, come on the girl is 22 yrs. old and style jacking the deceased. I know Aaliyah was more than a woman, she proved her self that and more since 14; but the girl did look ridiculous trying to pull of that “hardness” in that Official Girl video. Come on now, Cassie was from Prep School, Aaliyah from Bk to Detroit. There’s a difference. She is pretty, but she needs to find her self and not try to make it so obvious that she’s copying Aaliyah. Yo, I honestly believe Cassie has talent; she needs to work on it in some areas such as her singing; and she is pretty too[no homo]. But as far as people saying that she’s paying “homage” to Aaliyah that is cool if she is..but she needs to grow up for real. It’s quite obvious what she’s doing, Cassie: I love you and the song, but gurl please put your own creativity into your videos; your own style and finesse, the zest that it’s missing ight? I’m done.
