The Last Dragon is one of the cheesiest film classics ever.
The 1985 movie, produced by Motown founder Berry Gordy, tells the magnetic tale of Leroy Green (aka “Bruce Leroy”), an African-American teenager who pursues his quest to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishment, known as the “Last Dragon”. Those who achieve the high ranking possess “The Glow”, making them the greatest fighter alive.
Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Motown next year, The Last Dragon is being remade with Samuel L. Jackson set to play Leroy’s nemesis Sho’nuff, the “Shogun of Harlem”.
Berry Gordy’s son Kerry is co-producing the new version, alongside RZA from the Wu Tang Clan.
“I’m a huge fan of the original and look forward to bringing Sho’Nuff into the 21st century,” Jackson says.
Starring Vanity, Taimak and a cast of others, The Last Dragon is a cult favorite among urban audiences. If you’re a fan of the original, how interested are you in seeing the remake?
